My first class experience in this third period

On Tuesday 30th, I had my first class experience with intermediate level. First, I started the class with a warm up activity and I made students some questions about the previous class. Then, I explained the grammar part about the uses of the modal verbs and I also provided students some examples according to it.

After that, I gave them some exercises in order that they could practice the modal verbs “must”, “would” and “will”. The first one was a fill in the blanks activity, and in the second activity; students had to write an appropriate ending to the sentences I gave them.

At the end, I made a speaking activity according to the topic so that they could practice more about it.  For example, what would you do if you were a millionaire? How do you think the world will look like in the future? What are some of the things we must or must not do in the classroom? And I provided them some ideas. In this activity students worked in pairs and after that, I asked for volunteers to participate.

I really liked this group  because they pay attention to what I tell them, and they understand very well the instructions of the activities they are going to work with.

Something that did not go so well was that in the speaking activity few of the students participated and I consider that the questions were very easy. So I think that this group is kind of shy, but I hope next time most of them participate in the class. In the feedback the teacher told me that he really liked the warm up activity and also when I used the charts to explain the grammar part, but he told me that I need to include other activities such as readings, and so on.

  1. Hey Vero!

See, for me it seems to be great. It is quite difficult to integrate all kind of activities within 40 or 50 minutes. I like your energy and enthusiasm Vero and I know that your students enjoy this.

Making students talk is a horse of a different color. Some times you have to push them! But you'll know how to do it the next time, I bet you will!

    Nicely done Vero!

  2. Hello Vero!
I think that if Ihad been there, I would have liked your warm up too, and don't worry about the participation, students are always like that, just think of you when you were in intermidiate level.
I suggest you to follow your tutor's instruction, varying the activities is really important to achieve meaningful learning. Why don't you surprise everybody with an activity designed by you and oriented to favor the four macra skills? don't just stick to the activities that are in the lesson plan.
    Cheers!!

  5. Hi Verito!!!
I’m pleased to see your improvement in every class! I like the speaking activity that you developed because of the questions you used inasmuch as they invite you to think and use your imagination which is good to develop in our ss.
You are lucky because of the group you have they are great people who really like to collaborate, they love playing and they also pay attention and understand instruction pretty well as you said. There are many students there who really like to express their ideas. I had tree beautiful teaching experiences there, so enjoy them my friend! And continue doing your thing because you are doing it great! (y)
