My third class experience...Period III

Well, this was my last class experience with intermediate level II, and I really enjoyed this class more than the previous ones because most of students participated.

First, I started the class with a warm-up activity and I gave them a lyric of a song called: “I will survive”. Then, students had to underline all the gerunds and infinitives verbs while they listened to the song. After that, we listened to the song again and we sang all together.

Then, I made a review of the class and I gave them extra information about gerunds and infinitives. I pasted a chart with some verbs that are followed by infinitives and another list of verbs that are followed by gerunds, and I also provided them some examples. After that, I gave them a fill in the blanks activity in order that they could practice about the topic. Then, I gave them a reading in which they had to underline all the gerunds and infinitives verbs according to the reading.

I also worked with the book in a listening and in a writing activity in which they had to write an email including some gerunds and infinitive verbs.

At the end, I made a speaking activity with these questions: What kind of things do you want to do next vacations? Where do you want to go? Why? –What kind of things do you enjoyed doing? Why? – What kind of things do you dislike doing? Why? In this activity, students had to stand up and choose a partner to work with. And when both of them finished, they had to choose another classmate to talk about it. I could see that students really enjoyed this activity, and the most important is that they could put into practice about when to use gerunds and infinitives.

Finally, I want to say that I have had the opportunity to work with basic, intermediate and advanced level. And they are groups completely different, therefore; I have learned that as teachers we have to do our best in every class if we want to facilitate students' learning process.

My second class experience…Period III

On Tuesday 7th, I had my second class experience with intermediate level.  First, I started the class with a warm-up activity called “pass the ball” and the person who got the ball had to tell me a sentence using a modal verb that they had already studied.  Then, I explained them the last modal verb “ought to” and also the different kinds of modal verbs we have in English.

After that, I gave them some exercises in order that they could practice about all the modal verbs they had been studying. Then, I made a listening activity  and also some exercises that were in the book.

At the end, I gave them an article and pasted a chart that contained new vocabulary in order that students could understand better the reading. Then, I gave them a True-False activity according to the reading. And I also made a speaking activity related to it.

Something that went well was that students understood well the directions and they worked very well in the activities. And in the feedback the teacher told me that he liked a lot of things, specially; the way I monitored students.

Something that did not go so well was that in the speaking activity that I did, students did not want to participate just few of them did it and I felt bad because the class was being recorded. The teacher says it is common in this group, but I would like they participate more in the class because only in that way the class can be more dynamic. But anyways, I will try to do my best!

My first class experience in this third period

On Tuesday 30th, I had my first class experience with intermediate level. First, I started the class with a warm up activity and I made students some questions about the previous class. Then, I explained the grammar part about the uses of the modal verbs and I also provided students some examples according to it.

After that, I gave them some exercises in order that they could practice the modal verbs “must”, “would” and “will”. The first one was a fill in the blanks activity, and in the second activity; students had to write an appropriate ending to the sentences I gave them.

At the end, I made a speaking activity according to the topic so that they could practice more about it.  For example, what would you do if you were a millionaire? How do you think the world will look like in the future? What are some of the things we must or must not do in the classroom? And I provided them some ideas. In this activity students worked in pairs and after that, I asked for volunteers to participate.

I really liked this group  because they pay attention to what I tell them, and they understand very well the instructions of the activities they are going to work with.

Something that did not go so well was that in the speaking activity few of the students participated and I consider that the questions were very easy. So I think that this group is kind of shy, but I hope next time most of them participate in the class. In the feedback the teacher told me that he really liked the warm up activity and also when I used the charts to explain the grammar part, but he told me that I need to include other activities such as readings, and so on.
