On Tuesday 7th, I had my second class
experience with intermediate level. First, I started the class with a warm-up
activity called “pass the ball” and the person who got the ball had to tell me
a sentence using a modal verb that they had already studied. Then, I explained them the last modal verb
“ought to” and also the different kinds of modal verbs we have in English.
After that, I gave them some exercises in order that
they could practice about all the modal verbs they had been studying. Then, I
made a listening activity and also some exercises that were in the book.
At the end, I gave them an article and pasted a chart
that contained new vocabulary in order that students could understand better
the reading. Then, I gave them a True-False activity according to the reading.
And I also made a speaking activity related to it.
Something that went well was that students understood
well the directions and they worked very well in the activities. And in the
feedback the teacher told me that he liked a lot of things, specially; the way
I monitored students.
Something that did not go so well was that in the
speaking activity that I did, students did not want to participate just few of
them did it and I felt bad because the class was being recorded. The teacher
says it is common in this group, but I would like they participate more in the
class because only in that way the class can be more dynamic. But anyways, I
will try to do my best!

ReplyDeleteVero, nice warm up because you helped them to review and remember things that they have already studied :D
You always get a huge variety of activities, that is amazing!!! :D
At the end we have to understand students....and they are just like we were in those times....some times the students aren't in the good mood to speak....students are like that. But what really matters is the effort you did! At the end, education is something personal....you cannot push them to learn...they have to dare that step!
Hello Vero, these experiences help to be concious that teaching has its ups and downs. Sometimes some students can feel either enthusiastic or frustrated. Some topics in particular are tough and here is when things turn to be a little bit complicated but be proud of the things that were ok, which were the most!
ReplyDeleteI can see that you put all your energy to conduct the class satisfactorily and that is valuable because the effort made is thought to give good results. You are on the right track.
