On Thursday 4th, I had my last class teaching
experience with advanced level II. First, I started the class with a speaking warm
up activity called “finish the sentence”.
In this activity students had to give an appropriate ending to some
sentences that I gave them related with the topic they were studying. Then, I
gave them a reading and I pasted a chart which contained some new words in
order that students could understand better the article, and I also developed
some exercises according to the reading.
After that, I developed a speaking activity and in
this activity I asked for volunteers to participate, but just few of them
participated. So, that’s why the teacher told me that sometimes we have to
point out and push students to make them participate and we must not only ask
for volunteers. At the end, I developed a scramble activity related with the
topic they were studying.
Another problem that I had was that in the previous class
I assigned students a task, and when I wanted to check it orally I realized that just three of
them did the homework. That’s why I did not have much participation in this
part. And in the feedback the teacher told me that in that case, I should have
found another manner to make them participate for example, in that case I
should have wrote some sentences on the board and try to solve them all
together in order that most of the students could participate and not just few
of them.
I consider that I have learned many things from the
teacher’s feedback and I am going to take advantage of the piece of advices. I
think that every time we give classes; we learn something new, but the most important
is to try to put into practice all the things we learn in our teaching
practicum.
Very good! I liked the warm up :D. As you said that you have learned so much, you will keep learning just as the image you posted. Sometimes, students are reluctant to participate because they may be shy or because they are afraid of making mistakes. Taking advantage of the feedback by the teacher is a very good option for you to improve daily and obviously, do better in every class. I just suggest you to keep working with the macro skills as you did :D.
ReplyDeleteCheers.
That´s nice Vero!! I think most of us already fineshed the practices for this period. Well sometimes the students do not want to participate because they do not feel authority by the practitioners, and in other case the student may feel afraid of making mistakes. I agree with you when you say that we have to put in practice what we learn from our mistakes and feedbacks the teacher gives us, it helps us to make a better job in the next class. Good Vero!! keep on working hard! Blessings. :)
ReplyDeleteHello Verito!! I noticed that you had a nice class; I like the activities you developed. Let me tell you I had problems with the participation the last class as well, because they felt tired, maybe because of the school break. I know you did a good job Verito, keep that attitud and you will get a lot of good things! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteWow, I know that teaching for basic level is challenging, but for advanced it has to be even more!!! I really like the activity of "finish the sentence" I think it can be applied for many different topics. I share with you the feeling when you ask for the homework and just a couple of them did it at home, but I can tell you that every single experience we get in this period, will help us a lot in the next one!!! congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteHellow Verónica! I see you put a great effort in this class; it's good to try to vary the most we can and if the contents allows that flexibility. I know that not everything comes up the way we've palanned it; however, if we know that that usually happens, we have to think of other alternatives to do certain activities. Remember that the ways to reach an objective are several; it's not only one. Hope you learned a lot this period. It's cool you're done. Keep working hard Verónica!
ReplyDeleteHi Vero!
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that your Ss didn't do the h.w. However, as your tutor told you you have to take a good decision quickly because losing 10 or 15 minutes could be very devastating.
cheers!!!
Well Vero, just let me suggest you that since we aren't meeting the students so often, we shound't assign them homework because they won't take it seriously as they did with your homework. And I want to give you an idea, never trust an activity on your lesson plan that depends completly on your students responsability (in this case on the fact that they do their homework) because they may have other things to do and maybe they can consider a quiz, an essay or something alike more important than practitioner's homework. This class of yours seemed to be really nice! keep on doing this great job Lini!
ReplyDeletehello my friend. let me congratulate you because i have seen the way you are doing your best when teaching. what you said about the feedback is totally true because we learn through mistakes, and when the teachers correct them, we have the chance to do it better next classes. GOOD JOB VERO i wish you the best for next period...
