My second class experience..Period II

On Thursday 21st, I had my second class experience with advanced level.  First, I started the class with a warm up activity. Then, I explained them the grammar notes about prepositions in relative clauses, and I did some charts in order that students could assimilate better the information and I also provided them a lot of examples.

After that, I gave students some exercises in order that they could practice about what I already had explained them. Then, I developed a speaking activity related to the topic.

Something that did not go so well was that I started with the class very late because students had a grammar quiz and they finished very late. And when I started with the class, students were very stressed and frustrated because of the previous experience. Students said that the quiz was very difficult. So, when I was explaining the grammar part, the students were very discouraged. That’s why I could not develop another activity at the end, because the teacher told me that I had to leave it as a homework because of that problem. I was rather disappointed because students did not even understand the instructions to develop the exercises, but in the feedback the teacher told me that he liked the way I explained the grammar part and the effort that I made to teach them well. He just told me that I must understand that it was not a good moment for the students. To be sincere I did not like this experience, but I hope next time it will be better.

My first class experience in this second period

On Thursday 14th  , I had my first class experience  with advanced level. Before starting the class I felt kind of nervous because they are a lot of students, but then when I started the class I felt more comfortable working with them.

First, I started the class with a warm up activity that is called “Guess the Author”.  In this activity students wrote a short paragraph in a piece of paper about a plan they had when they were younger, but for some reasons it could not be accomplished. After that, I picked up the piece of papers and I read some of them aloud. At the end, students tried to guess who wrote the passage. I made this kind of activity, because they were studying about the future in the past so that they could put in practice that.
Then, I made a fill in the blanks exercise according to the topic they were studying. After that, they had a listening activity about a boy who talks about a favorite book he had when he was younger. At the end of the listening, I asked them a lot of questions to see if they really understood the listening. Then, I made a speaking activity in which students had to talk about a story they know or tell a traditional tale, a favorite book or children’s story, etc.  At the end, I made another exercise in which students had to write an appropriate ending to the sentences I gave them.

I really liked this group  because they pay attention to what I tell them, and they understand very well the instructions of the activities they are going to work with and most of them participate in all the activities.

Something that did not go so well was that in some activities I spent a lot of time working with them, because I consider that they work very slow. That’s why in the class, I was always saying “hey, people hurry up” and in the feedback the teacher told me that it does not mind if all the students have not finish with that activity, but if I have 5 minutes to work in one activity; I have to stop the activity in that moment. So, I learned that I must be careful to manage the time for the activities.
