My first class experience in this second period

On Thursday 14th  , I had my first class experience  with advanced level. Before starting the class I felt kind of nervous because they are a lot of students, but then when I started the class I felt more comfortable working with them.

First, I started the class with a warm up activity that is called “Guess the Author”.  In this activity students wrote a short paragraph in a piece of paper about a plan they had when they were younger, but for some reasons it could not be accomplished. After that, I picked up the piece of papers and I read some of them aloud. At the end, students tried to guess who wrote the passage. I made this kind of activity, because they were studying about the future in the past so that they could put in practice that.
Then, I made a fill in the blanks exercise according to the topic they were studying. After that, they had a listening activity about a boy who talks about a favorite book he had when he was younger. At the end of the listening, I asked them a lot of questions to see if they really understood the listening. Then, I made a speaking activity in which students had to talk about a story they know or tell a traditional tale, a favorite book or children’s story, etc.  At the end, I made another exercise in which students had to write an appropriate ending to the sentences I gave them.

I really liked this group  because they pay attention to what I tell them, and they understand very well the instructions of the activities they are going to work with and most of them participate in all the activities.

Something that did not go so well was that in some activities I spent a lot of time working with them, because I consider that they work very slow. That’s why in the class, I was always saying “hey, people hurry up” and in the feedback the teacher told me that it does not mind if all the students have not finish with that activity, but if I have 5 minutes to work in one activity; I have to stop the activity in that moment. So, I learned that I must be careful to manage the time for the activities.

  1. what's up Verónica! Good warm up since you made your students think and express their plans; I really like those sort of warm up as they are totally related with the topic. I see you managed the class very well. In regards with the time, you can put a little bit of pressure by just saying "one minute people"; even, when starting the activity you might say "5 minutes people" so that they know the time they have to work. Hope you improve on that part Verónica!

  2. Wow! I wish I had that creativity to develop many activities as possible. Nevertheless, I know I have to work on it. I can see that you enjoy teaching them. I must say that you must control time, but remember that it varies; I mean, sometimes the activities are shorter or larger, so try to manage it just to reinforce their learning. Also remind them how much time they have left so that you can hurry them up! Anyways, we are still learning, and the next class, I know you will do much better.

  3. Amazing Veronica! You stimulated all the macro-skills! that is really good. I also liked your warm up. Students are more confident when they share personal information with the teacher. The number of student is something that drives us nervous at the mojority of us! And the time management is really difficult because we don't have all the time we want to develope all the activities! Nice activity variety Vero! Keep on doing great!
